Couple's Getaway: Savannah, GA

Savannah is the perfect couples' getaway. Nestled at the southernmost tip of the Georgia/Carolina Low Country, this classic southern town offers a relaxing stay, amazing views and incredible cuisine and nightlife.

Things to do in Savannah, GA

Savannah is a diverse mix of American old southern charm and contemporary vibes thanks to SCAD's (Savannah College of Art & Design) close partnership with the city.

Historic squares are peppered throughout the city center including Chippewa Square. This is the location where the famous bus stop scenes from the film, Forrest Gump were filmed.

After wandering the streets and taking in the magnificence of the live oak trees with their Spanish moss, couples can have a cocktail at The Tree House overlooking City Market, visit the exquisite Cathedral Basilica of St. John the Baptist and take a romantic stroll along River Street at night - be sure to check out River Street Sweets to get a free sample of the world's finest pralines.

For couples who are looking for a more intimate experience Spa Bleu offers full and partial day spa packages. We prefer "The Couples Retreat" which offers massages, facials and pedicures.

Give you and your sweet love an extra day to hop out to Tybee Beach. This little 3x5-mile island makes you feel like you have stepped back in time to a vintage seaside town. I recommend having brunch at The Deck before walking the shoreline and visiting the pier.

Places to eat & drink in Savannah, GA

Breakfast

Huey's on the River - Southern/Cajun fusion breakfast. Enjoy refreshing mimosas with their delicious beignets while enjoying the view of the Savannah River. This is a must! The Deck on Tybee - As mentioned above. I had some scrumptious fish tacos overlooking the Atlantic.

Lunch & Dinner

Belford's for seafood, steak, and mint juleps. I would wait until later in the evening when the crowds thin out to grab a table on the sidewalk and do some people-watching. Bring along your favorite hat to feel at home with the Kentucky vibe.

Rocks on the River - This rooftop restaurant is located atop the Bohemian Hotel, and overlooks the river. We love having after-dinner drinks here while taking in the beauty of the river and the gorgeous Savannah bridge. The Olde Pink House - Historic "Haunted house" with live music in the cellar. I would call the cuisine traditional southern fare with an elegant twist.Garibaldi's - This restaurant is my favorite in the Southeast. It is the sister restaurant to The Olde Pink House, so both have similar menus with some overlapping offerings. I always order the Apricot Scoured Flounder when I visit. While The Olde Pink House is more on the tourist's radar and is a Savannah must, Garibaldi is truly romantic with its Art Deco design and swanky sophistication. Be sure and ask to check out the luxurious ballroom upstairs before heading to the bar for a limoncello nightcap.

Need to know

Although I'm a southern belle from Atlanta, I love this city and have visited dozens of times for work, leisure and family. Although this guide is geared toward couples, the city is also perfect for families and solo travelers.
